Planetary Aspects
The following pages are intended to give some idea about how the planets are modified by interacting with one another via aspects. These definitions will jog your thinking process when you feel stuck on a particular aspect. Often you will be able to reverse the soft/hard definitions and produce an accurate statement.
Consider the planets involved. A trine aspect between Mars and Pluto might also manifest by making it easy for the individual to be cruel. In order to read an aspect in depth you may want to refer to the Aspects by Sign section. The Soft or easy aspects are the conjunction, the sextile and the trine. The hard or challenging aspects are the semi-sextile, the square, the quincunx and the opposition. (Note: the semi-sextile is sometimes considered to be a minor soft aspect.) Generally soft aspects are given a more positive reading whereas the hard aspects are given a so called negative definition, but there are no absolutes when trying to determine how an individual will express a particular set of energies. Many astrologers dispense with the type of aspect and focus simply on the fact that there is an interaction between the two planets.
Planets here are listed according to speed of travel. Included is one keyword which captures the essence of a particular planetary vibration. The following reference section is intended to get you started and to jog your thinking if you happen to draw a blank. You may also refer to the more complete list of keywords and come up with your own combinations. Aspects between Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are generational in their influence.
The aspects which most people can readily identify with are the very personal planets, Sun through Mars, being aspected by each other and especially, Jupiter through Pluto. Jupiter and Saturn are like the mediators between the personal planets and the outer planets. They are more personal than the outer planets and yet not quite as personal as the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars.
