Johannes Kepler
Johannes Kepler was born in 1571 in Germany and died in 1630. Kepler discovered the basic laws of planetary motions upon which modern celestial mechanics is built. Kepler was sickly as a child and continued to face many struggles throughout his adult life as well. Frequently he faced very serious financial problems, his first wife suffered from bouts of depression and physical illness and finally died, and he had 3 children that died from smallpox. He was very religious, and it was his original intent to enter the ministry, and he was persuaded in 1594 to accept the first post offered to him, a position in astronomy at a school in the city of Graz. On July 19, 1595 he noted his discovery that "God in creating the universe and regulating the order of the cosmos had in view the five regular bodies of geometry as known since the days of Pythagoras and Plato". For Kepler science is a means of discovering the secrets of God's creation; science reveals the divine laws at work in creation. His book Harmonies of the World, published in 1619, contains many of his ideas on relating musical harmonies and geometric shapes to planetary movements. Kepler's vision might be considered mystical by today's standards, and he also was intellectually brilliant, reverant, and he persevering in seeking the answers to his questions. Some of his books continue for many pages with detailed technical data and then suddenly he closes a chapter or section of the book with a prayer or statement of gratitude to God. Kepler made his discoveries of the laws of planetary motion by laboriously analyzing the comprehensive data on planetary positions collected by Tycho Brahe.
Kepler also practiced astrology and would sometimes explain conditions in his own life by referring to his astrology chart. Kepler. We have named our software program in honor of Johannes Kepler. Since the time of Kepler, science and religion have continued to separate from each other. Intuition and logic have become opposites to each other as have art and science. But we believe that this rift is slowly disappearing, and much of ancient wisdom that has been discarded is now being resurrected and found to be useful. Applying the scientific method to alternative methods in healing and psychology, such as astrology, will demonstrate that there is validity in some of these techniques. Kepler's dream was to advance the science of both astrology and astronomy. Our universities may teach that only one of his dreams has born fruit, but we think that his dream of a more rigorous form of astrology is only taking longer to achieve than his dream of establishing a more exact, precise, and sophisticated form of astronomy. Many people in modern times are working to fulfill Kepler's dream, among which are giants like Theodore Landschedit and John Addey, as well as many others who contribute in smaller ways. It is our hope that the Kepler program will work in the tradition of Johannes Kepler to discover the truth, and specifically to solve the riddle of astrology that has been with people since the very earliest civilizations. Astrology has been actively pursued in almost all major cultures and has been debated and argued for thousands of years, and now in the information age, we are beginning to see the sleeping giant of astrology awaken and reveal that, incredibly, astrology is not the work only of charlatans and pseudo-scientists but it is also the work of geniuses and progressive thinkers who have unlocked some of nature's secrets.
