Frequently Asked Questions About the Void of Course Moon
Q: I am confused by the directions with your Void of Course area---I am on
central time, so I should subtract an hour from your eastern times, correct? I am confused because you have an area titled-"New" in red that states no need to adjust, and something about daylight savings time. Thanks so much and I am looking forward to hearing from you as well as using your services.
A: Yes, to make the tables relevant for your area (in this case, Central time zone) you would subtract 1 hour from all times shown including the times posted during Daylight Savings time periods. For Mountain Time and Pacific Time - proceed as above for the number of hours shown here.
Q: Have your Moon Phase tables been adjusted for daylight savings?
A: No, they have not been adjusted for times zones or daylight savings. They have been generated using Greenwich (England) Mean Time a.k.a. Universal Time (zero hours) a point that may be used globally when the necessary adjustments are made by whomever is using the table.
Greenwich is at 51° N 29 - 000° W 00'00" . London is at 51° N 30 - 000° W 10'00" .
All of England is a"0" hour time zone.
Q: Why do you use U.T. for tables other than the Moon Void of Course?
A: To make the tables accessible for everyone, directions are given for making the necessary adjustments based on where a person lives. Greenwich Mean Time (U.T.) was a point chosen as the Prime Meridian (the vertical lines of longitude on a globe) or a zero starting point for all time zones world wide. Places are considered to be a number of hours either East of West of that point on the globe.
Q: Why do you use only U.T. for the Moon Void of Course for Europe, Asia, and countries East of Greenwich?
A: When these pages were initially published back in 2001, the time zones were published based on traffic demographics at the time. Later on, in order to make the tables accessible for everyone globally, G.M.T, aka, U.T. tables were published and directions are given for making the necessary adjustments based on where a person lives. Greenwich Mean Time (U.T.) was a point chosen as the Prime Meridian (Meridians are lines of longitude encircling the globe) or the zero starting point for all time zones world wide. Places are considered to be a certain number of hours either East of West of that point on the globe and thus the various time zones exist.
Q: I saw another site which suggests that everyone else has wrong Moon void of course information listed and that hers is the correct method. What do you think about that?
A: The short answer? Not much. Now for the long winded response. The last aspect the Moon makes is an important factor to consider. From what I could understand about the statements made on the site, there is no mention about the "last aspect" the Moon makes to another planet. While the Moon is still making an aspect, it is, in effect, being "activated" by the type of aspect made. In other words, a planet aspecting another planet is "touching" the planet with an energy that is either harmonious or in conflict, thus creating a kind of energizing effect one way or the other. Once the Moon moves away from it's last aspect and just before it moves into another sign, it is floating peacefully and undisturbed through the cosmos. For a short time there will be no particular energy activating the Moon astrologiacally speaking. It is now officially "Void" for a short while. It is just quietly getting ready to move into a new sign. This is the reason why I believe that the site owner makes the statement that she has "no idea how" all of the other void of course listing results are obtained. Her technique does not take the end of the Moon's last aspect (a void condition) into consideration.
Astrolology is an open art in my opinion. We are all free to use the basic information in any way which we feel serves us best. Que sera, sera. Whatever floats your boat. Go with the flow or take a stand, and get on with life. However, after years of personally using the method shown on my site (the one that has been utilized by astrologers the world over for many years ) that it just plain works! Horary astrologers have also tested and used this same method for many, many years and are still employing it with great success to this day.
An explanation of time differences:
The Sun always "rises" over the Eastern horizon due to the motion of the Earth. William lives in England which has a Time Zone of "0" hours and is 5 hours east of the United States Eastern coastline. William leaves for work at 8:00 AM based on his clock in England. Simultaneously, Vincent on the east coast of the USA, is still sleeping as it is only 3:00 AM in New York. The rotation of the earth has not moved sufficiently yet to make the Sun "rise" in the USA. It will be another 5 hours before the clocks on the east coast of the USA are at 8:00 AM. So when it is 8:00 AM in New York, then William, in England, is most likely just finishing his lunch. Why? Because it is now 5 hours later in England than in New York; or about 1:00 PM. After lunch, William's job requires him to make a business call to Vincent in the USA. He notes that even though it is 1:00 PM in England, it is only 8:00 AM in New York and he decides to wait an hour or two before calling because he knows that Vincent may just now be leaving his home to make the trek to work. So instead, William decides to call his business associate, Hans, who lives in Berlin, Germany, as it is already 2:00 PM in there.
